Designing a Digital Portfolio
Task:
You must create 3 designs for your Digital Portfolio.
Content of Digital Portfolio:
- Home Page containing a Personal Statement.
- Subjects Page detailing all of your school subjects/teachers/classrooms/classwork.
- Activities Page consisting of events you are involved in and out of school.
Each of these pages may have sub-pages and hidden pages linked to them.
This means you will have three separate posts for each design titled:

- Design 2
- Design 3
Using the DESIGN section of the weebly website you will consider:
Theme
Header Area
- Site Title
- Navigation Menu
General
- Paragraph Titles

MYP Areas of Interaction
Approaches to Learning:
This area of interaction is based on
learning how to learn. “Approaches to learning” is all about how a student manages to take
responsibility for his or her own learning and finding out in what way he or she
can learn best.
Community and Service
Community and service is an interaction
that helps students discover more about their community and encourages them to
contribute something to it. It’s about helping and cooperating with each other
outside or inside the classroom.
Human Ingenuity
In this area of interaction students
explore the human creations and how they were made and improved over time.
While covering the aspects students also learn the impacts / outcomes of the
human doings.
Environments
Learning about this area of interaction
makes students more aware of their responsibility for the environment. Taught
this, students can show more responsibility and care towards the environment
and tell apart social, economic and political issues and how they impact the
environment.
Health and Social Education
This area of interaction is about
health and social aspects in life and in general, self-awareness. It helps you
understand changes in your life, how you act and how to lead a healthy
lifestyle. The student will learn to reflect on health aspects such as:
physical, psychological, sociological, economic and legal.

Software Options for a Digital Portfolio
1. HTML
HTML stands for HyperText Markup
Language. It’s used to create websites in a way that code tags have to be put
in the text to apply a feature. So if you did <title>Digital
Portfolio<title> then it would appear as the title on the page.
Random example links:
Advantage: HTML is a reliable way
to create a website because it’s supported and used nearly everywhere.
Disadvantage: The codes are
difficult to memorize.
HTML is probably a good way of
creating a webpage because the codes used are suited for even beginners and
don’t need a paid software. But the downside is that learning all of the codes
would be like learning a whole new language. Quite difficult.
2. Dreamweaver
In basics, Dreamweaver is a
software that allows you to make websites. It is easier to use than HTML, there
is less coding and mostly a point and click thing.
Advantage: Easy to use.
Disadvantage: The software is more
limited in commands than HTML.
It will probably suit both users
like me and more experienced ones. It is ideal to use.
3. Wiki
A wiki is a web application where
users view data which they can use for adding data to share with others and in
collaboration with others.
Advantage: Everyone can add
information and edit it. This resource can be updated quickly. Information can
be passed on from people all over the world that might know something about the
topic.
Disadvantage: Since everyone is
allowed to edit the data it may not be reliable.
In my opinion it isn't suitable for
the making of a digital portfolio as a wiki is made for a different cause.
Describing Digital Portfolios
1.
What
is a blog? What is a wiki? What is the difference between them?
A blog is a site
set up on the WWW, specifically run by one or more users on a chosen topic. Other
users can view, comment their thoughts and learn from the project but not
change the content. A famous blogger website is www.blogger.com
A wiki is a
website also on the WWW, not run by a specific user / group of users. The
information is usually for educational purposes and can be edited by anyone. A
famous wiki is www.wikipedia.com
2. What
is an online Digital Portfolio?
A digital
portfolio is a portfolio stored online. The data can be put in creative ways
like videos, screenshots, audio recording, pictures, etc. instead of writing.
People are able to view it and see your accomplishments throughout your work.
3. What
are the three important features of a digital portfolio?
-
Eye catching
-
Informative
-
Organized
4. List
one advantage and disadvantage of a digital portfolio?
Advantage:
People are able to see your strengths and may want to employ you for an
important job.
Disadvantage:
Others can view your personal information.
5. Find
a digital portfolio that you like, hyperlink the URL and describe the strengths
and weaknesses of this portfolio.
Strengths: The blog is put together very cleverly
and creatively. I really like how information is expressed with the charts and
that the portfolio is interactive.
Weaknesses: The only weakness I found was that the
information wasn’t very particular or detailed.
6. Discuss
the portfolio and the things that leave a positive impression on you.
In
my opinion, the best feature of the portfolio was the design and organization.
The sufficient information was there together with the fancy design. Again, it
is interactive which a great idea because not a lot of digital portfolios have
that.
